Plan for this week: in oil and acrylic, leverage my self portrait learnings, new poses
Learnings:
- with a coloured ground, still wet scratching is another way to build shapes (reminds me at the scratch works at school time in oil pastels, black overpainting over coloured spots)
- Luminosity: based on strong tonal contrasts or by multiple transparent layers
- Concept: Mirror reflection -> image -> picture in a picture
Plan for next week:
- Further exploration in context, different viewpoints, working in oil
35: Acrylic on paper (48 x 36 cm):
inspired by Kaye Donachie – limited palette and working on luminosity
34: Acrylic on paper (48 x 36 cm):
inspired by Kaye Donachie – limited palette and working on tonal contrast in flat areas
33: Gouache on Bristol paper (40 x 30 cm):
inspired by Kaye Donachie. Painting done in hotel.
=> Quick sketch on paper: in the mirror – idea of multiple layers of reality (for further exploration)
32: Pastels on PastelCard (30 x 40 cm):
Painting done in hotel
=> Is it an image in a mirror or an image on a wall? What is reality? For me to think and explore further. Overall for me a strange painting and unbalanced composition. Perhaps too early in the morning.
31: Acrylic on primed acrylic paper (48 x 36 cm):
Paper prepared with a middle tone brown made from Azo red, Ultramarine, Azo Yellow and Titane white.
=> I feel that this painting is one of the more coherent daily ones. Monochrome in color but intriguing in expression.
30: Acrylic on primed paper (41 x 30 cm):
Paper prepared with a middle tone mix of blue, red, yellow, and white
=> I started with the background and continued with scratch marks to identify shapes and following with transparent layers for form and atmosphere perception.
29: Oil sticks on oil paper (48 x 36 cm):
Oil sticks and turp with addition of Titan white from the tube
=> A painting that I felt started right but went odd. Especially the left side is out of composition for me.
